Casillas want to leave Madrid and join Klopp's men

Iker Casillas could be set for a shock move to the Premier League with Champions League-bound Liverpool, according to reports in Spain.

The 36-year-old Porto goalkeeper, who is out of contract this summer, is rumoured to be giving serious consideration to join the Reds, according to newspaper AS, in news which is sure to raise plenty of eyebrows from football fans across Europe.

Casillas, who is also said to be mulling over offers from Turkey, Qatar and the Chinese Super League, would likely opt to join Jurgen Klopp's men in the close season and some reports have even suggested that the shot stopper has already shook hands on a pre-contract arrangement to move to Merseyside when the transfer window opens on 1st July.

Some confusion has reigned over the Real Madrid legend's time at Porto after he seemed to agree to pen a 12-month contract extension with the Portuguese giants last summer as his current deal wound down.

However, AS has claimed that Casillas did not, in fact, sign that extension to keep him at the club beyond the summer of 2017, and Liverpool have now apparently swooped to bring the Spain international to Anfield.

Klopp is no doubt keen to bolster all areas of his senior squad after Liverpool successfully confirmed a place in next season's Champions League - as long as they win their qualifier at least - by finishing fourth in the Premier League this term.

It remains to be seen how much game time Casillas would be offered in L4 with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius also vying for the number one spot in Klopp's starting lineup. The Mostoles-born star may be handed minutes in some matches - especially given that Liverpool will be fighing on four fronts next season - but the veteran keeper would almost certainly be third choice with the Reds.

If nothing else, Casillas' vast club and international experience would be vital to Klopp's cause as he continues to instill a title-winning mentality in his first-team players, and the 49-year-old believes that Casillas' knowledge from his 20-year playing career will rub off on Liverpool's young talented stars.
